Edition 1 Handaufzug
Edition 1 Handaufzug
The Edition 1 Hand-Wound captivates at first glance with its simple elegance. With a diameter of 42 millimeters, it is not overly imposing, yet still makes a strong impression with its large sterling silver dial. This has been polished and made resistant using a unique process (“Breguet frosted”, for example) and corresponds beautifully with the rose gold-plated and elaborately hand-guillochéd “small seconds” at the 6 o'clock position. The dial and pear-shaped hands are protected by a domed, anti-reflective sapphire crystal, which shields the watch from everyday wear and tear thanks to its durability and scratch resistance. The showpiece, however, is the ETA “Unitas” 6498 caliber movement based on a pocket watch caliber, which can be viewed at work through the solid sapphire crystal case back. The oscillating balance wheel, the precise Swiss anchor escapement, and the intricate gear train bring the fascination of mechanical watchmaking to life. The movement was elaborately hand-finished by master watchmaker Jochen Benzinger to make it something truly special. The balance cock, which holds the heart of the watch in place as it beats at 18,000 vibrations per hour, was delicately engraved by hand and elegantly rose-gold plated. The flame-blued screws, the pearling on the base plate, and the hand-guilloché work on the three-quarter plate of the hand-wound movement round off the elegant appearance and already make the Edition 1 a classic of contemporary watchmaking.
